International short film festival.


The International Short Film Festival Winterthur is Switzerland’s largest short film festival. The festival takes place each year in November. It is a popular audience event and an important platform for European short films.

OSCAR qualifying Festival in the category of short films.

  • Grand Prize CHF 12,000 (~ 10,000 EURO) for the best short film of the Competition;
  • Promotional Award CHF 10,000 (~ 8,300 EURO) for an outstanding directorial achievement;
  • Award for the Best Swiss Film CHF 10'000.– donated by suissimage/SSA;
  • The audience awards the Audience Prize worth 10,000 CHF (~ 8,300 EURO).

The winners of the Main Awards of the International and Swiss Competition can apply for the OSCAR® Award for Best Short Film. Excluded from this are documentary films.


  • The films must have been completed in 2021 or 2022.
  • Runtime must not exceed 30 minutes (40 minutes for the Swiss Competition).
  • Commissioned works made for advertising or PR purposes are not eligible.
  • Films submitted for the Swiss Competition must be a world premiere. 

Subtitles language: German or English

Short films of all genres that does not exceed 30 minutes.

Films submitted for the Swiss Competition can be films realised by either Swiss filmmakers or non-Swiss nationals residing in Switzerland. The films cannot be longer than 40 minutes.
