Cairo International Film Festival.


he Cairo International Film Festival is an annual festival organized by the Cairo International Film Festival Foundation and sponsored by public and private organizations in Egypt and around the world. The aim of the Festival is to improve the taste in movies, to strengthen artistic links between countries, to allow meetings between professionals and to build bridges between workers in the field of cinema from different cultures and thus to promote the film industry in Egypt, the Arab world, and other countries. 

The CIFF sections are:

  • Official Selection for feature and documentary films: International Competition – Out of Competition.
  • Horizons of New Arab Cinema Competition for feature and documentary films.
  • International Critic's Week Competition for feature and documentary films.
  • Cinema of Tomorrow International Competition (CTIC) for short films.
  • Festival of Festivals.
  • International Panorama.
  • New Egyptian Cinema (2022– 2023).
  • Feature film classics.
  • Tributes.
  • Guest of Honor from world cinema.

Other activities include:

  • The Golden Pyramid for best film presented to the producer,
  • The Silver Pyramid for best director,
  • The Bronze Pyramid for best first or second work of a director,
  • Naguib Mahfouz Prize for best screenplay
  • Ahmed Zaki Prize for best actor,
  • Faten Hamama Prize for best actress,
  • Kamal el-Mallakh Prize for best artistic contribution.
  • The Lifetime Achievement Awards will be given by the board of the CIFF to prominent film figures.
  • The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) will grant two prizes awarded by its jury that will comprise a president and two members. 

The Cinema of Tomorrow International Competition Awards

  • Youssef Chahine Award for Best Short Film.
  • The Special Jury Award.


  • Films must be produced after October 2022. Duration of each film must exceed the sixty-minut mark. 
  • All films must not have been screened in Egypt before.
  • Films must not have been broadcast on any TV channel, or on the internet, mobile phone, or any other media until the end of the festival;
  • The film must not have been screened in Egypt before.
  • The competition films must not have participated in the competition of another International Film festival accredited by the International Federation of Producers Associations (FIAPF).
  • Each country has the right to participate with more than one film.

Documents and Other Requisite Items

  1. Fill the required entry form on the festival website.
  2. Send a DVD copy or provide a link to online screener with English subtitles by post to the CIFF address.

National premiere required.

Duration of short film must not exceed thirty (30) minutes. All genres of shorts are accepted: fiction, non- fiction y, animation, experimental.
