Years running: 43 (since 1982)
International festival for young film-makers.
About
In 1982 the festival first ran its projectors under the name First Federal Film Festival for Pupils in Hannover, Germany. In celebration of the tenth festival in 1999, up-and-coming went global and became an international competition for works by the young generation of film makers from the ages of 7 to 27. The festival is intended as a forum for the exchange of experience between young film makers, the audience, professional film makers, producers and media educators. It takes place every two years (odd years) and presents works which are new, fresh, outrageous, imaginative, unusual, humorous, provocative and unconventional. The festival encourages experiments in content, style and form. Here, production values are secondary to imagination and ideas.
All films will be categorized into three age groups: up to 16, 17 to 22 and 23 to 27 years of age.
Awards
During the festival the jury will award three films the German Young Film Makers Prize and three films the International Young Film Makers Award. These prizes are an initiative of the up-and-coming festival and are awarded as a glass film comet.
