About

Reel to Real is dedicated to showing the best in culturally diverse, authentic programming for children and youth. Since 1999, the Reel 2 Real International Film Festival for Youth has offered children and youth the opportunity to see the best films from Canada and around the world. Reel 2 Real includes a weekend Films for All Ages program, and a week-long School Program for students in grades 4 to 12. In addition to screenings, there are workshops for children and youth that explore various aspects of filmmaking.

Awards

  • The Edith Lando Peace Prize ($500 cash prize) is awarded to the film that best utilizes the power of the motion picture to further the goal of social justice and peace in the world;
  • Best Picture, Most Inspirational Film, Most Inspirational Film, Most Innovative Film from Youth Jury Award-Ages 13+ and Youth Jury Award-Ages 9+
  • the National Film Board of Canada Award for Best Animated Film 

Rules

Restirctions

  • Features: minimum 60 minutes;
  • Shorts: maximum 60 minutes;
  • Criteria for non-acceptance of films into the festival include: Excessive or gratuitous violence, nudity, or profanity; content that advocates and supports racial, cultural, religious, or gender bias;
  • All entries submitted must be suitable for children ages 19 and under;
  • To be eligible for inclusion in the R2R competitive program, Entries must be completed no earlier than January 1, 2020.

Documents and Other Requisite Items

  • Fill out entry form (paper one or on-line via Filmfreeway system);
  • Pay entry fees;
  •  Entries may be submitted electronically or on DVD.

Additional Information

The Festival will pay the cost of shipping all films and videos back to the participant.
