About

Moondance is dedicated to promoting the boldest and most innovative work, and films that challenge the boundaries of filmmaking. The annual film festival celebrates, encourages, inspires, and supports original independent films, written works and music, not just during our film festival but throughout the year. Moondance always screens only the very best in independent cinema from the US and around the world. Our super-productive workshops, pitch-panels, networking events and gala awards ceremony and reception are very popular and well-attended.

Awards

• Spirit of moondance award: or women writers filmmakers & composers
• Moondance seahorse award: for men writers, filmmakers & composers.
• Moondance sandcastle award (male & female film director, writing or composing team)
• Moondance columbine award: 18 and under
• Moondance dolphin award: for young people 18 years of age or younger, male or female. 
• Moondance calypso award. The award is presented annually to the person who expands knowledge of our world, seeks to improve our quality of all life on the planet, inspires others, and actively contributes to the betterment of humankind and the natural world.
• Moondance gaia award: to the person who seeks to elucidate and improve the spiritual quality of all life on the planet, and contributes to the betterment of the world spirit.
• Moondance atlantis award: for writers, filmmakers & composers who have submitted projects from a country outside the US, and offers international recognition for talented artists from around the world.
• Moondance starfish award: for comedy projects submitted by writers and filmmakers.
• Moondance colorado ocean award: for Colorado-based filmmakers, writers & composers.
• Moondance seagull award: This award is to honor and celebrate the art of drone cinematography in short films, and offers international recognition for talented & innovative drone filmmakers from around the world.
• The moondance abyss award: for very well-made and meaningful thriller, horror or supernatural films, written works & film scores. 
• Moondance neptune award: to a male or female writer, filmmaker or composer, 75 or over the age of 75, who has created either a single work of the highest quality or a body of quality work, and who continues to strive for excellence in his or her career in the entertainment industry, and who inspires and encourages others by his or her example.
• Seven seas award: for a winning project created by writers, filmmakers & composers, who enlighten others, help change perceptions about another culture and/or place, and promote cross-cultural knowledge and awareness, through the art of film, writing or music, and, thus, encourage a better understanding of the world’s people.
• Mermaid’s pearl award: The award is presented to honor and recognize women in the film industry who have contributed most to insuring that women’s work is recognized and appreciated for its worth, who help women achieve success in film, writing & music, and who have themselves contributed a vital body of work, and who continue to contribute to this vital effort. 
• Moondance cinema pioneer award: This award is in special recognition of a living pioneer in early cinema
• Moondance angel award:  to the exceptional person who has made a very important contribution to the continuing success of the Moondance International Film Festival.
• Moondance chambered nautilus award: This very special award is gratefully presented to the Moondance patron, sponsor or donor who provides the most vital and generous financial support to the annual film festival, which increases awareness of the Moondance mission and goals, and greatly benefits the event’s filmmakers, writers and music composers, its festival participants, attendees and audiences, as well as the local community and the global entertainment industry.
• Moondance legacy award: to honor and recognize women in the film industry who have contributed most to insuring that women’s work is recognized and appreciated for its worth, who help women achieve success in film, and who have themselves contributed a vital body of work, and who and continue to contribute to this vital effort.
• Moondance better world award: to the exceptional person who has made a very important contribution toward promoting, inspiring, encouraging, supporting, and educating the world community about vital humanitarian or environmental issues.

Rules

• Feature, short, documentary and animation films may be submitted by the screenwriter, director, producer, production company, distributor, animator, editor, lead actor(s), film score composer and/or cinematographer/DP.

Premiere Requirements

No premiere requirement
