Melbourne International Animation Festival

Years running: 22 (since 2000)

Melbourne International Animation Festival

One of the largest animation festivals of its kind in the world.

The festival usually screens around 350-400 films each year in competitive, student, curated & retrospective programs. MIAF generates a smaller touring festival called the Australian International Animation Festival, is the submissions base for the UTS Sydney International Animation Festival and the London International Animation Festival, and also provides specific programming advice to the New Zealand Film Festival. When you submit your film to MIAF, your film is automatically considered for each of these other festivals although these other events will send you separate and specific invitations if they wish to screen your film.

MIAF presents a substantial student animation festival (Best of the Next) as a means of supporting young and emerging animators.

  • To be considered eligible for selection in MIAF, the film should have been completed after 1 January 2019.
  • Load your film to Vimeo or YouTube (preferred) and provide a link and (if applicable) password - OR, send a VOB or MPEG file via WeTransfer or DropBox - OR, post a DVD that has been tested.
  • There are no limits to how many films can be entered but each film needs a separate Entry Form.
  • Subtitles language: English
