Freud wrote that in sorrow, the world around is impoverished and desolate, while in melancholy, it is the self that is affected. Our film is all about melancholy, which takes hold of our main character during a midlife crisis. To capture the essence of this feeling, we kept the dialogue to a minimum, shot during the evening, looked for poignant gestures, and went with the flow of the surroundings. We filmed in the mountainous region of Adjara, a mainly Muslim area in Georgia. To convey the painful state, a slow editing pace and the unhurried existence of the actors were chosen. To keep things real, we cast non-professional actors in authentic settings. Most of our actors were locals from the village or nearby areas. Our camera usually stayed still and distant, but at times, it picked up some movement and got a bit closer, adopting a documentary-like style. Throughout the film, we build up tension by showing the everyday routines and the main character's inner thoughts, leading to a climax at the end. To underscore the reflection, we use transgressive scenes on the border between reality and fantasy.
