In the last years of the existence of the USSR, a graduate of a technical university and a researcher at the Research Institute of Chemical Physics, Leonid Katsis, began to actively engage in literary criticism, following only his own ideas about what to consider as an established fact. The appearance of such an uncompromising figure frightens, irritates some professional philologists, and those literary critics who, like Leonid Fridovich himself, came to the profession from technical fields. They attempt to hinder Katsis from building a scientific career in a new field for him, in order to prevent the revision of existing concepts of the history of culture. Leonid F. Katsis understands the complexity of his situation, but the former Soviet system of scientific research institutes has been destroyed, and there is no turning back.
