Timur, a melancholic barber prone to philosophical ponderings, finds out that his girlfriend Lilya is pregnant. To retain his freedom, he decides to become a military conscript and plans to serve abroad. Unknowingly, he becomes part of a secret immigration plan of his gay Captain. Just before their departure to the USA, protests break out in the city. Timur, who ends up in the epicenter of the unrest, tries to get to the hospital where Lilya is about to give birth, in order to end his relationship peacefully, before he leaves the country. The Captain, worried that his plan might be interfered with, tries to stop Timur. Timur escapes and finally arrives to the hospital, where he discovers that Lilya has abandoned the newborn in the hospital and left. Since he is not registered as the father, he cannot take the baby. Despite the pressure from the Captain and the circumstances, Timur makes a hard decision – he steals the baby, finds Lilya, and stays in the city, thus starting a family that he dreamed of.
