Fyodor, a promising, clever boy who grew up in an orphanage and achieved everything on his own, falls in love with a girl from a rich family. The girl's relatives, however, are unhappy with the choice because of his social status and dubious pedigree. They declare that they will only give their consent when they meet the groom's parents. For Fyodor, who has never seen his parents, this condition seems impossible to fulfil. But he is willing to do anything for love.
