About

By bringing together documentary films and valuable visual media from around the world, the YIDFF offers all festival participants a space for sharing the richness of visual culture and facilitating international exchange, and also provides support to filmmakers. Moreover, YIDFF conducts activities to promote visual culture throughout the year, with the aim of contributing to local development.

 

Awards

International Competition:

  • The Robert and Frances Flaherty Prize (The Grand Prize) ¥2,000,000,
  • The Mayor’s Prize ¥1,000,000,
  • Two Awards of Excellence ¥300,000 each,
  • Special Prize ¥300,000.

New Asian Currents:

  • Ogawa Shinsuke Prize ¥500,000,
  • Two Awards of Excellence ¥300,000 each.

Rules

International Competition:

  • Producers intend that the work is a documentary.
  • The work has not been released publicly in Japan (screenings in theaters or TV broadcast); 
  • Shorts will not be accepted;
  • The work produced after April 1, 2020
  • Subtitles language: english

  • Fill out entry form,
  • Send 2 DVDs with submitted film by mail. Entrants may also submit

    Press kit and Film stills online.

Premiere Requirements

National premiere required.
