About

Atlantic Film Festival for Youth is a week long film festival for young people and their families. The festival offers daytime screenings and workshops for school groups, as well as evening and weekend activities that showcase youth-made films. Festival celebrates the best in regional, national and international films for youth, tackling issues from multiculturalism and community to sustainability and creativity. Throughout its activities, the Festival opens doors for anyone looking to watch great films, meet and learn from industry professionals, and to experience the wonderful world of moviemaking through hands-on media workshops.

But really, Atlantic Film Festival for Youth is more than that. Beyond the main event, held each spring, the festival's team is hard at work to bring a whole series of year-round activities and programs to young people across the Atlantic provinces, including:

Awards

  • The Gordon Parsons Award for Best Atlantic Feature Award is open to all eligible Atlantic Canadian feature length films.
  • Best Atlantic Short Award is open to all eligible Atlantic Canadian short films.
  • Best Atlantic Director Award is open to all eligible Atlantic Canadian features, shorts, and documentaries.
  • The Michael Weir Award for Best Atlantic Screenwriter Award is open to all eligible Atlantic Canadian features and shorts.
  • Best Atlantic Cinematographer Award is open to all eligible Atlantic Canadian features, shorts, and documentaries.
  • Best Atlantic Editor Award is open to all eligible Atlantic Canadian features, shorts, and documentaries.
  • Best Atlantic Original Score or Song 
    Award is open to all eligible Atlantic Canadian features, shorts, and documentaries.
  • Joan Orenstein Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress Award is open to all eligible Atlantic Canadian features and shorts.
  • David Renton Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor Award is open to all eligible Atlantic Canadian features and shorts 
  • Best Atlantic Documentary Award.
  • Best Atlantic Short Documentary Award.
  • Best Atlantic Animation Award.

Rules

  • Projects completed after March 1, 2022.
  • Only films completed no more than 18 months prior to the 39th Atlantic International Film Festival will be considered for admission.
  • Projects must be a premiere in Halifax.
  • Submit via Filmfreeway or Withoutabox.
  • Subtitles language: English

Premiere Requirements

City premiere required.
