Trieste Film Festival

About

The festival has been the natural result of a long and silent work of study and research on the cinema coming from Central and Eastern European countries completely isolated by their belonging to the Soviet block itself, and by the Western markets' censorship, but nevertheless enlivened by interesting ferments, which have been particularly perceived an felt by a town like Trieste, on the border with the East.

The main purpose of this yearly event of cinema culture is to promote information, debate and mutual cooperation among the operators of the audio-visual production industry and in particular of films in Central and Eastern Europe. Competition sections mainly focuse on those films that feature originality and linguistic innovation, as well as on the productions concentrated on particular aspects and problems of the society and culture of their countries of origin. Beside the official selection and the sidebar programmes, starting from 2010 the festival hosts the co-production meetings “When East Meets West”, which involves more than 120 professionals coming from all over Europe.

Awards

• Trieste Prize — the festival Audience award for the Best Feature Film in competition (5000 EUR);
• Trieste Short — the festival Audience award for the Best Short Film in competition (2000 EUR);
• Alpe Adria Cinema Award — the festival Audience award for the Best Documentary Film in Competition (2500 EUR).

All the prizes will be given to the film directors.

Rules

• Films have to be completed after January of 2023.
• Submit online via the Eventival platform to the Trieste Film Festival.
• The films selected for the International Feature Films Competition and the International Documentary Films Competition have to be Italian premieres.
• The films selected for the International Short Films Competition have to be regional premieres (Friuli Venezia Giulia region).
• For the Feature Films and Documentaries in competition the producers should guarantee the presence of one person (the director, the producer, the main actor or the screenplay writer) at the official screening of the film.
