About
One of the Best International Film Festivals and top 10 Short Film Festivals in the United States. Festival celebrates the independent spirit in film and has become a haven for independent filmmakers from throughout the world. In 2011, the Festival presented 200 films representing work that were shot and produced in 34 countries. There were 18 World Premieres and 21 US/North American Premieres. Attending the Festival were more than 200 filmmakers, producers, cast and crew plus an entourage from Greenland courtesy of the Danish government.
RIIFF is an Academy Award and BAFTA nominating Festival in the categories Short Narrative Films and Documentary Short Films.

Any narrative work of fiction with a running time of 41 minutes or more, including films that are shot in a "mockumentary" style. In order to qualify as a U.S. Narrative Feature Film, the submitted project must be either scripted or improvisational fiction.

The Rhode Island International Film Festival celebrates the art, craft and creativity of the animator. From special screenings, retrospectives and sidebar programs, RIIFF honors and extols this art form. Any fiction film with a running time of 40 minutes or less is considered a narrative short.
Any non-fiction film with a running time of 40 minutes or less is considered a documentary short.
Any non-fiction film with a running time of 41 minutes or more is considered a feature documentary. All time lengths are welcome.
