Saguenay International Short Film Festival.

About

Being among the most important international rendez-vous exclusively dedicated to short films in North America, the festival has the mission of promoting independant short films that reflect an innovative spirit resulting from a high quality artistic approach.

The festival presents more than 150 films during five days and features numerous activities related to short films. The event is also home of the only short film Market in Quebec. It provides discussion workshops, round tables, forums, master classes, networking happy-hours, a video library containing all the films submitted for the Festival and a lot more.

Program

  • Official Competition — a programme open to all Canadian and international short film directors and producers;
  • Tourner à tout prix! — a programme that presents films by promising filmmakers from Quebec;
  • Caravane du court métrage — a school tour when a team meet thousands of students from elementary and high school level to accompany them in discovering independant cinema via short films.

Awards

Prizes worth CAN$ 70 000+ will be presented to winning filmmakers. The winner of the top awards will become eligible to enter the Oscars.

Rules

OFFICIAL COMPETITION:

  • Films must be under 40 minutes in length.
  • Priority will be given to the films completed after March 1st 2023.
  • Priority is given to independently-produced auteur films.
  • Priority is given to national, North American and world premieres.
  • All films (fiction, animation, documentary and experimental) are eligible.
  • Scool films are eligible if they meet the above criteria outlined.
  • Works created for advertising, promotional, instructional, scientific purposes or videoclips will not be accepted for submission.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

  • Carte Blanche, spotlight, retrospective, panorama, focus, documentaries, school films, genre films and other themes;
  • Films must be under 40 minutes in length;
  • Priority is given to films that impressed the committee;
  • All films (fiction, animation, documentary and experimental) are eligible.

Youth Short Film Section

  • Films aimed at very young audiences of 2 to 17 years old .

Documents and Other Requisite Items

  • fill out an online form on festival's website;
  • send by postmail or e-mail a preselection copy, a photograph of the director, two film stills: 300 dpi for printing and 72 dpi for the web.

Student works are eligible if they meet the outlined criteria.

The preselecetion copy will not be returned.

All films submitted to the Festival will be available for viewing at the Short Film Marketplace’s video library during the Festival and will be included in the catalogue for industry professionals.

If it is impossible to provide a subtitled copy of the film, the submitter must provide the list of dialogs in a Word format in French or in English.

The Festival would like every film in the competition to be represented by either the director or the producer at the awards ceremony. A part of the accommodation costs for a limited number of directors whose short have been selected will be covered.

The Festival reserves the rights to use clips from the selected films for promotional purposes.

The participant must cover the cost of sending the film to the Festival; the Festival will cover the return cost.

The Festival will cover the cost of insuring the film from the time it is received until the time it is sent back. In case of loss or deterioration, the Festival is only responsible for replacing the copy of the film.
