The New York City Short Film Festival (NYC Shorts) is an international competitive short film festival created by filmmakers and dedicated to the short form. The festival screenings takes place at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre at Symphony Space, a storied arts and film venue in Manhattan.

Entries for Documentary Short must be non-fiction works, not more than 20 minutes in length, including credits.
Entries for LGBT Short must be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender themed, fiction or non-fiction works, not more than 20 minutes in length, including credits.
Entries for Animation Short must be animated fiction or non-fiction works, not more than 20 minutes in length, including credits.
Entries for Foreign Language Short must be subtitled in English and not more than 20 minutes in length, including credits.
Entries for Student Short must have been produced by a student or recent graduate (before the date of graduation) and not more than 20 minutes in length, including credits.
Entries for Comedy Short must be comedic, fiction narrative works, not more than 20 minutes in length, including credits.
Entries for Drama Short must be dramatic, fiction narrative works, not more than 20 minutes in length (including credits).
