Matsalu International Nature Film Festival

International Nature Film Festival in Estonia.


The Festival is a meeting place for filmmakers, whose films deal with the biological diversity and its protection, preserving nature as a habitat. The Festival provides an opportunity to introduce Estonian film culture and create contacts between filmmakers from Estonia and other countries. The Festival will host also nature photography exhibitions, meetings of nature photographers and other cultural events.

The Festival program consists of:

  • Competitive program,
  • Non-competitive program
  • Retrospectives,
  • Nature photography exhibitions,
  • Seminars and workshops,
  • Leisure time events.


  • Festival Grand Prix: €3,000
  • First prizes (one in each category): €1,000
  • Best Director (one in each category)
  • Best Cinematography (one in each category)
  • Special Prizes of the Jury
  • Highly commended Diplomas

All entries shall receive a participation certificate.


  • Films submitted to the Festival must have been completed after January 1, 2022.
  • Films may be documentaries or animated films (7+ min). The Festival does not accept fiction.
  • Films may have been previously entered in other, similar festivals.
  • The number of entries by one author is not limited.
  • Subtitles language: English
  • submissions are to be made via Filmfreeway.
