About
LIsFE has offered both local and international visitors a high-quality selection of short films from across the globe, ranging from works of fiction to documentaries and animated films, directed by professional and cinema/media school student filmmakers. This has allowed our audience to discover internationally acclaimed works as well as short films by promising newcomers. The festival is organized around a competition in which a jury as well as the audience award the best films with a prize acknowledging the work of the most talented filmmakers.
The key to LIsFE’s success is its threefold purpose:
- To allow people to have a complete and in-depth experience of short films, a creative and vibrant yet often overlooked part of cinematography,
- To support the next generation of filmmakers by introducing the works of cinema school students to a wider audience,
- To create a cultural event that can bring together both the local and the international people of Leiden (all films are subtitled in English).

Rules
- Films should have been completed after and including January 2025
- Submission to the Festival is open to all kinds of short films (animated, documentaries etc.).
- Films must be a maximum of 30 mins in length.
- Submit via Filmfestivallife, Festhome or Filmfreeway.
- Subtitles language: English
