Gran Paradiso Film Festival

An international festival dedicated to nature-based cinema in the Gran Paradiso

About

Created in 1984, and now into its twenty-first edition, the Gran Paradiso Film Festival (GPFF) is an international festival dedicated to nature cinema and one of the most important film events held in the Aosta Valley Autonomous Region.

The purpose of the Festival is to contribute to a wider circulation of nature-based films, the spread of naturalistic heritage knowledge and the growth of environmental respect and awareness.

It takes place within the framework of the wonderful Gran Paradiso National Park, established in 1922 to protect the ibex. The majestic mountain scenarios of the Park stimulate creativity for both the guests and the audience of the GPFF which is presenting a high quality cultural offer.

The Festival is made of two film sections: the International Competition, open to international feature films and medium-length films focused on nature, aiming at promoting a wider knowledge of natural and environmental peculiarities of the planet earth through the cinema and the CortoNatura, open to international short fiction films, short animated films or short documentaries dedicated to nature, in order to increase youth participation to the Festival and promote environmental audiovisual production. The jury of the Festival is composed of a Technical Jury and of a Jury of the Audience. The latter awards money prizes (total amount of 9,000 €) for the best selected films.

The GPFF organizes, besides the film screenings, various sections and cycles of events such as the De Rerum Natura, Aria di Festival and Il mondo che cambia.

Each Festival edition is characterized by a theme, chosen as a fil rouge among all the events, and by a main character who represents the soul of the event, transmit a message of conservation and promote the Festival image.
