About

When selecting films, the committee concentrates equally on both human rights content and artistic quality. FFF gives special priority to community and indigenous-made films; and films that have resonance to the people of South East Asia region.

Awards

  • BEST SEA HUMAN RIGHTS FILM — For best film from/about South East Asia;
  • BEST MALAYSIAN FILM (JURY PRIZE) — For the best film made by a Malaysian filmmaker;
  • THE FREEDOM AWARD — For the best amateur/community/student film;
  • BEST SHORT FILM (AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD) - For the best amatuer/community/student film.

Rules

  • Films must be completed after January 2022.
  • Priority will be given to South East Asian films that are shorter than 60 minutes and contain the following themes:
    • Indigenous, land and cultural identity
    • Environment, technology and sustainability
    • Freedom of Expression
    • Gender, Identity and Disability
    • Poverty and the economic structure
    • Repressive regimes and community uprisings
