About

Transilvania International Film Festival is presented Romanian Film Promotion. It is the first international feature film festival in Romania and one of the most important film festivals in Eastern Europe. It has a competition for 1st and 2nd time directors. The last editions of TIFF have not only been spectacular, but also showcased an extremely generous and diverse offer of films and sensational events. The 2010 edition has broken all the records, with 240 films from 47 countries, screened in the 13 festival locations, attracting over 55.000 spectators during the ten days of the festival.

Awards

  • «Transilvania» Trophy – awarded to the best film in the official competition, worth 15.000 Euros (equally divided between the director and the main producer);
  • Best Director – worth 5000 Euros (goes to the director of the film);
  • Special Jury Award – worth 1500 Euros (goes to the director of the film);
  • Best Performance (EUR 1,000, going towards a male or female actor or ensemble) .

Other awards:

  • FIPRESCI Award – offered by the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) to a feature film from a thematic section chosen annually by the artistic director of the festival;
  • Audience Award – chosen by the audience, through vote;
  • Excellence Award – offered to a Romanian film personality;
  • Lifetime Achievement Award – offered to an international film personality;
  • Best "Shadows" Short – the prize money goes to the director of the film;
  • Romanian Days Award: Feature Film – the prize money are equally divided between the director and the main producer;
  • Romanian Days Award: Short Film – the prize money goes to the director of the film;
  • Romanian Days Award: Best Debut– the prize money goes to the winner.

Rules

In order to be eligible the films submitted for the competitive sections must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Release (world premiere) dates for films selected in the competitive programs of the festival must be after May 1, 2023.
  • The competition is open to first and second feature films only and must be national premieres.
  • The films must be screened in the original version with Romanian and English subtitles 
  • There are no length or genre limitations – the only exception applies to the short films in the Shadows competition and for documentaries.
  • The festival will not pay screening fees for films submitted for any of the competitive sections — Official Competition, Romanian Days, FIPRESCI competition, Shadows Shorts.
