A Night of Horror tooks place in conjunction with Fantastic Planet Film Festival. Together the festivals provide Australia's leading showcase of independent genre specific cinema. Combined, the fests screened over 100 films in 2015. Both festivals retain independent programs and their own specific award categories.

Single episodes of web series or television series, and/or short films and/or videos, made primarily for exhibition or distribution on television or the internet (50 minutes and under in duration), that deal with horror themes.
For short screenplays that are less than 60 pages in length.
For feature length screenplays between 60 and 130 pages in length.
Any music video that deals with dark or horror themes (maximum 10 minutes).
Short films (45 minutes or under in duration) that deal with, or are inspired by, the writings of horror author H. P. Lovecraft.
Any feature length film (45 to 140 minutes in duration) that deals with horror themes. (Documentaries are also welcome.)
Any live action film (45 minutes or under in duration) that deals with horror themes. Your film can be narrative fiction, experimental, or even a documentary about horror.
Any animated film (45 minutes or under in duration) that deals with horror themes.
