About

Documentary Edge Festival is Australasia's premiere international competitive documentary film festival held in New Zealand. Main mission is to showcase documentary films from New Zeaalnd and around the world to celebrate the best in documentary filmmaking as well as to provide an opportunity for both New Zealand and overseas filmmakers to meet and explore business opportunities.

The Festival runs annually in Auckland and Wellington and includes a Gala Awards, Q & A sessions with filmmakers, special events and more. During the Festival organizers also run the Screen Edge Forum, a 3-day industry conference. 

Doc Edge is an Academy Award® qualifying festival for short documentaries.

Rules

  • Films must be completed from 1 January 2018 onward.
  • Preference will be given to premieres in the following order: World, International, Asia-Pacific, Australasia, New Zealand.
  • Films previously screened at New Zealand at festivals or released theatrically may be considered at the discretion of Doc Edge.
  • Films are ineligible if already available online in New Zealand territory.
  • Submission are to be made via via FilmFreeway.
  • All non-English films must have English subtitles.
