It is the fall of 1943. The Second World War. Russia. The crew of an Italian military motorboat is stationed at dilapidated convent on Lake Ladoga. An irreconcilable foursome becomes stuck on the island amidst its northern boulders and humble hermits’ remnants: Pelageia; the Russian Captain, haunted by revenge for his children killed by fascist bombs; and Lora, with her lover Giacomo, the Italian enemy… The soul of each person on the island is opened to God. But the boat has a leak and only two can return to the mainland… Who is destined to die? Who is destined to overcome and live?
