Biography

Katya Telegina was born in 1983. In 2004 graduated from School of Cinema&Television “Interviews”. Studied at The Russian State University of Cinematography (VGIK), the director’s workshop of Vladimir Khotinenko and Vladimir Fenchenko. Directed several successful full length features, also works as advertising director.

Directors Statement

Initially, this is a French legend about a wealthy aristocrat nicknamed Blue Beard for his unusual beard colour. He is a nightmare for all women across the region because of his looks and also because of the fact that his 7 ex-wives have mysteriously disappeared. Once he seeks in marriage at a noble household where there are three marriageable daughters. The youngest one is seduced by his wealth and consents… This story full of archetypes and people’s wisdom is interpreted quite differently. Some even say that the key theme is inability of a young woman to listen to her intuition due to lack of life’s experience. I decided to look at Blue Beard at a different angle. Just think of a blue beard that makes people so scared of a person – it is just a little difference, nothing else. He differs so little from people around and they still avoid him! In this situation, the only thing left to Blue Beard is seeking for keys to other people. And these keys are his wealth, which is not surprising in our materialistic world. However, the intolerance often brings to a dead end. While tolerance can make a difference.
