In the mountains of Dagestan, on the border with Chechnya, the events of that War turned the lives of one Avar village. A man is at war, a man loves mountains, a man cannot leave them and cannot return to his home. Horses in gray apples, eagles over the tops of the mountains, cows on the same road with old Soviet cars - we do not go with him on a journey through the mountains of Dagestan, we only become companions of his life for a few minutes.
Our picture of the world, “Map World”, sometimes consists of strange reflections, "hits" in other people, in their feelings, experiences, states of minds. A sudden meeting can turn into a discovery of fate, character, pain. From such meetings, sketches, we shape our experience. Our existential experience. Our philosophy of life. My Dagestan is painted with strokes, a momentary impression, a meeting that turned out to be a film. The fatalism and hopelessness of the mountains, the isolation of a person among the peaks, the impossibility, like a mountain eagle watched by the hero, to rise above the burden of his sins of the past, the war, home, abandoned many years ago - complemented for me, as a director, the picture of the world this time. And became a kind of mountain impressionism, saturated with strength, acceptance and tragedy.
