Movies That Matter Festival

Annual film and debate festival on human rights and social justice.

About

Since this festival’s first edition in 1995, the number of movies made about situations in which human rights are being violated and human dignity is at stake has risen considerably. The founding of Movies that Matter created a new platform on which the human rights movies and the increasing public interest in them can be brought together. This covers national programmes, among which an education programme, a monthly national film programme and a film and debate festival in The Hague, as well as international projects.

Program

  • A Matter of ACT programme,
  • Camera Justitia programme,
  • MovieSquad All Rights programme,
  • Students' Choice programme.

Awards

  • The A Matter of ACT Competition: The first Golden Butterfly, Amnesty International's € 5000 A Matter of ACT award, the human rights award of the festival, goes to one of the defenders in the A Matter of ACT programme. The second Golden Butterfly, Amnesty International's €5000 A Matter of ACT documentary award is for the maker of the best documentary in the A Matter of ACT programme.
