About

DocAviv is the major documentary festival in Israel. It screens only Israeli premiers of international and Israeli films and is highly frequented by the national film industry.

There are 4 award bearing competitions, special screenings, a retrospective and a master-class which is held by international filmmakers.

Awards

There are two fixed awards in the International Competition:

  • Best Film Award (about 5000 USD cash award),
  • Special Mention.

There are several fixed awards in the Israeli Competition:

  • Best Film Award,
  • Special Mention,
  • The Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo Award for a Promising Filmmaker,
  • Editing Award,
  • Cinematography Award,
  • Research Award,
  • Awards and prizes may be omitted or added at the discretion of the Festival’s management.

There are several fixed awards in the Students Competition:

  • First Award to the Best Student Film,
  • Second Award,
  • Third place Award,
  • Additional awards and prizes may be omitted or added at the discretion of the Festival’s management.

Rules

  • Films competing in the international competition must be documentaries of more than 40 minutes in length. Films competing in the Short Films Competition must be 40 minutes in length or less. 
  • The film’s production was completed or will be completed during 2022 or 2023. 
  • The Docaviv screening of the film must be an Israeli premiere. 
  • The film must not be available online in any form.
  • Submissions are to be made via the online entry form found on Docaviv's website and by completing the forms attached to these Regulations (Appendices A & B). The forms must be signed by the person holding the film’s rights.
  • A secure screening link (our preference is Vimeo links).
  • Subtitles language: English

The film is a documentary. The film was produced within the cinema department of a school of higher education in Israel ("School"). Festival may only be submitted by the Schools. They may not be submitted directly by the students. Each School may submit up to 3 films.

A documentary of at least 45 minutes in length. The film meets the definition of an "Israeli Film," pursuant to the Cinema Law, 2005.

The competition is dedicated to films exhibiting exceptional vision and creative spirit. The selection will be made by the Artistic Director or by a person or persons appointed by the Artistic Director.
