Festival of independent and alternative cinema in Athens.

About

The Athens International Film and Video Festival maintained a vision and identity that celebrates avant-garde, independent, alternative, and world media, from 35mm feature films, 16mm films, video, and now digital media and interactive installations. Competition for independent media artists includes a broad diversity of artists, genres, and approaches. Prizes are determined by jurors consisting of guest artists, and other professionals in the field. The Athens International Film and Video Festival also sponsors guest artists screenings, that often include workshops and additional opportunities for artists to meet with audience members and students. Festival also includes a Feature Film Showcase, highlighting the latest in global cinema.

Awards

1st prize winners in Short Narrative and Animated Short are Academy Qualifying.

Awards for each category: 

  • 1st prize: $1000 USD for each category (Experimental, Short Narrative, Feature Narrative, Animation, Short Documentary, and Feature Documentary)
  • Black Bear Award (for best use of sound): $1000
  • Film House Award (for visionary filmmaking): $1000 

Rules

  • Shorts: maximum 40 minutes.
  • We do not accept mailed in screeners (please do not send DVDs, BLURAYs, or flash drives to our office).
  • We do not accept prescreening materials through email and are unable to download files from sharing services. Submissions are only accepted through Filmfreeway
  • Subtitles language: English
