Awards

The Flyway Film Festival is proud to announce our 2016 Short Film Competition in partnership with Seed&Spark. The two winners will be picked from the top five short films accepted for inclusion in the festival, chosen in collaboration with a panel of Flyway jurors.

In addition to the prestigious "Flyway Ax," a stone sculpture presented to all award-winners at the annual film festival, the winning filmmakers will receive: 

  • $500 toward their next Seed&Spark crowdfunding campaigns (on campaigns of $7500 or more). 
  • Individual crowdfunding and audience-building consultation with Seed&Spark experts. 
  • Eligibility to distribute with Seed&Spark’s major media partners. 

In addition, Seed&Spark will create a Flyway channel on the Seed&Spark website to stream the top five short films, offering the films to thousands of viewers.

Additionally, the jury has at their discretion, the ability to present Special Jury Awards for outstanding merit to any programmed film.

Rules

  • Films must have been completed on or after December 31, 2016. 
  • Films in theatrical release in Wisconsin or Minnesota prior to, or at the time of the festival (October, 2017) are not eligible. 
  • Film screeners will only be accepted via FilmFreeway. 

Premiere Requirements

Regional premiere required.

Student Feature (Documentary or Narrative 50 minutes or over).

  • Standard Deadline — $20

To be eligible for the Wisconsin/Minnesota Showcase, the film must have been primarily shot in the states of Wisconsin or Minnesota; OR the story must place in Wisconsin or Minnesota; OR the filmmaker must have been born in, or must currently reside in, Wisconsin or Minnesota. Wisconsin/ Minnesota Features must be 50 minutes and over in length.

  • Standard Deadline — $30

Narrative film 50 minutes or longer.

  • Standard Deadline — $40

Narrative films under 50 minutes.

  • Standard Deadline — $25

Non- Fiction film 50 minutes and over.

  • Standard Deadline — $40

Non- fiction film under 50 minutes.

  • Standard Deadline — $25

To be eligible for the Wisconsin/Minnesota Showcase, the film must have been primarily shot in the states of Wisconsin or Minnesota; OR the story must place in Wisconsin or Minnesota; OR the filmmaker must have been born in, or must currently reside in, Wisconsin or Minnesota. Wisconsin/ Minnesota Showcase Short Films must be under 50 minutes in length.

  • Standard Deadline — $20

Any Children's Film, of any length.

  • Standard Deadline — $20

Documentary or Narrative under 50 minutes).

  • Standard Deadline — $20

Submissions in this category must have been completely shot via phone and/or drone. Submissions may be of any length (But shorter is better). Submission information must include information on type of phone and/or drone used. To be eligible 100% of the entry must have been shot via phone and/or drone.
