After You're Gone is in Official Competition program of 29th Tokyo International Film Festival.

The Tokyo festival is accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) as a competition screening of feature-length films, and it stands alongside Cannes, Venice, Berlin and other top festival from around the world (in total 15).

This year marks the 29th edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), the only Japanese film festival accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). TIFF started in 1985 as Japan’s first major film festival. Since then, it has grown to become one of the biggest film festivals in Asia. TIFF seeks out excellent films from around the world and brings them to Tokyo, where filmmakers and film fans can enjoy them, meet emerging filmmakers, and be inspired.

Over the ten days of the festival, films from a variety of genres will be shown in several sections. One film from the Competition section, a carefully chosen selection of premieres by talented first-timers and recognized directors, will be awarded the Tokyo Grand Prix. The competition awards several prizes, including the Tokyo Grand Prix, which includes a cash prize of fifty thousand dollars, a statuette and doubtless recognition from the international film community.

The full festival program can be found here.

This year 1409 films from 86 countries were submitted for the festival. The only Russian film to enter into competition is After You're Gone, for which we applaud the creators and the entire crew behind the film!

Premiere of film was at Open Russian Film Festival Kinotavr in Sochi this summer, after that film was shown at some Russian film festivals including Ural Open Festival of Russian Cinema, 9th International Film Festival «East&West Classic and avant-garde» and other. We are especially pleased that “After You” is not just a talented effort from young artists, but it is also a film about ballet that shows contemporary Russia in a new light, a truly personal one, that nonetheless does not forget about the country’s great traditions.

Synopsis:

Aleksey Temnikov is a renowned ballet dancer, and an acknowledged genius whose career was cut abruptly short after sustaining an injury back in the ’90s. Twenty years later, Aleksey discovers that his condition is degenerative, and that he will soon lose the ability to walk. For him, this means only one thing – death. Before this happens, Aleksey sets out to choreograph a ballet he envisaged long before, but never staged for fear of failure. “What will I leave behind after I am gone?” is a question Aleksey feels he must contend with. However, returning to the world of ballet will not be easy for a man who has made so many enemies over the course of his life, not to mention the many years spent away from the theater.

We again congratulate the makers of the film on their great success. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
