Santa Monica Teen Film Festival

International short teen film festival.


Its purpose is to showcase and provide an outlet for the creative talents of teen filmmakers, as well as encourage youth to use the art of filmmaking as a form of creative expression and commentary on the world in which they live. Although the festival is open to films by teens from around the globe, the public screenings take place in Santa Monica.

This year we are pleased to announce a partnership with the Relativity School of Film, Media and the Performing Arts. The overall winner of the Festival will be given a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to their 3 week summer film school intensive. (A value of $3,500!).


Prize: $40,000 tuition scholarship to Studio School will be awarded to the winner of the Best Overall Film. Recipient must be a rising senior or a recent grad. Students going into their junior year or younger will receive a full tuition 3 week summer camp scholarship to Studio Institute Camps valued at $3,000.


  • The Annual Santa Monica International Teen Film Festival is open to filmmakers ages 13-18 only

Categories & Fees

This category is for films without dialogue and/or traditional story lines. Music Videos are accepted in this category as well as non-linear and abstract entries. Length between 60 seconds and 30 minutes

Documentaries can be about any topic. They generally do not use live actors or a 'script'. They inform the audience about a place, event or program and usually involve interviews with and about the subject. Length between 60 seconds and 30 minutes.

Animated films can be traditional animation, computer animation, stop-motion animation or other forms. They can be as short as 60 seconds or as long as 30 minutes.

We accept any genre of Live action - horror, drama, comedy - and the film can be any length between 60 seconds and 30 minutes.
