Cristian Nemescu and Andrei Toncu used images and sound to create a hypnotic world where magic, curiosity and enthusiasm were everywhere. Since, unfortunately, Cristi and Andrei are now gone and because this world they made had to be taken further, the NexT International Film Festival – N for Nemescu and T for Toncu – was created.
Each year short and medium films are gathered from around the world. The young and talented directors and sound-designers of these movies are invited to Bucharest throughout the whole Festival, because NexT is more than an intelligent film selection, it is a meeting place for all those who use films to live their lives and express themselves.
The costs related to the transportation of the film to the Festival are the responsibility of the participant. The costs related to the transportation of the film back to the sender are the responsibility of the Festival.
The Festival provides accommodation and covers the travel expenses of the director(s) or sound designer(s) of the films selected up to a limit that will be established after the guest list is complete.
Screening Media Type: DCP 2k format (unencrypted) — preferably, QuickTime ProRes, H264, MP4 H264, MPEG2 HD, Blu-ray.
National premiere required.

Only narrative films (animation included) are eligible for selection in the competition. The maximum duration of the films submitted for the competition is 60 minutes.
A special program spotlighting cinema that works directly through the minds of the audience, without an anchoring narrative, employing audiovisual means in order to astound, intrigue, amuse and sharpen the senses of the spectators. The maximum duration of the films submitted for the Avant-garde program is 60 minutes.
This section presents the problems of women – be they mothers, daughters, girlfriends or wives, or just individuals trying to be their own accomplished person. The maximum duration of the films submitted for the NexT Is Feminist program is 60 minutes.
At NexT we celebrate not only thematic and stylistic, but also sexual variety, through a program strictly dedicated to LGBT shorts. The maximum duration of the films submitted for the LGBT program is 60 minutes.
We can tell you already that it has to do with sex. The maximum duration of the films submitted for the Hanky Panky program is 60 minutes.
We ask filmmakers to send us their trips to the moon, their post-apocalyptic stories, their footage of (fictional) alien landings. Serious, fact-nourished, science-fiction is as welcome for this special program as are comedies set in space and other flights of fancy that lift us off the ground while we watch them.
The NexT Kids program is open to any genre, as long as the films are thematically and formally suitable for 5 to 12 year olds. The maximum duration for the films submitted for NexT Kids is 10 minutes.
If you recently made a film that looks a little psychedelic, resembles a Kenneth Anger masterpiece (wishful thinking, but who knows?) or includes at some point a bunch of non-violent hippies reacting against the aggression of some government of this world, it might fit into this section of NexT Film Festival. On the other way, the „flower power” concept is imaginative enough to offer a large amount of possible interpretations. So play with it and send us your flower of a movie. The maximum duration of the films submitted for the Flower Power program is 60 minutes.
Superheroes can shine in short films if they're bright enough, so send us your films and let us know who to put our faith in! Of course, beside standard-issue men of action (not to mention women and felines of action), we welcome quirky characters, unexpected saviors, and figures who have all the aura of a superhero with none of the actual powers. The maximum duration of the films submitted for the Superheroes program is 60 minutes.
