About

The competition in intended for students from film, art, design and media academies, from polytechnics, students on technical courses such as media informatics as well as students of media, theatre, film and television sciences.

Academies, training institutes or production companies can submit films or contributions by their students and apprentices if the student or apprentice has given their express consent. In this case the director’s contact details—along with the contact details of the academy or training institute—must be given.

For team productions (several people have collaborated equably) one person must be named in the online registration—in addition to the contact details of the individual team members—who will act as contact person for the competition.

Program

The kurzundschön competition is open to all national and international student and trainees in the areas of:

• Television/Film and video (directing, scriptwriting, cinematography, editing, post-production);
• Art and Media Design and technology (students on other technical courses);
• Media, theater, film and television sciences/theory.

Categories/Awards 2014:

• Short feature film (up to 15 mins.)
• Animationfilm (up to 15 mins.)
  Artistic/experimental film (up to 15 mins.)
• Commercials/educational ads (up to 3 mins.)
  Walk & Watch: cinema in transit on Infoscreens (up to 20 secs.)
• Motion Design (up to 7 mins.)
• publicART: VJing & artistic projection (up to 10 mins.)
• WDR Category 2014: Image Video for Funkhaus Europa (up to 3 mins.)
• Special Award 2014: best editing with Avid

Awards

Information: kurzundschön is not a film festival and as such has no public film programme - the winning films/contributions are announced and presented to the audience at an award ceremony. The award-winning short films, as well as some other outstanding submissions to the competition, will be shown in a short-film night on WDR television.

Restirctions

The competition is open to national and international students and apprentices (also trainees) in the areas of television/film (directing, scriptwriting, camera), video- and postproduction as well as art and media design.

• for short films: max. 15 minutes (excluding credits), 
• age limit: the partizipant/applicant  of kurzundschön should not be older than 35 years,
• for advertising films / social commercials: max. 3 minutes,
• cinema in transit for Infoscreens: 20 seconds,
• WDR category 2014: 3 minutes,
• they were created in the context of an apprenticeship or studies,
• they are not older than 1 year and 3 month,
• they did not compete in the 2012 kurzundschön competition.

Documents and Other Requisite Items

Application and submission of films to kurzundschön is only possible via film upload and online registration via reelport.
