The Creepy Tree Film Festival is an international horror festival that runs quarterly throughout the year, and home to the Creepy Tree Exemplar Award (CTEA). We seek to discover talented filmmakers, writers, photographers, and artists that truly capture the horror genre. With four festival seasons and several contest categories provided throughout the year, our festival platform offers a unique approach to gaining industry exposure for your creepy creative talents.

Rules

FILM CONTEST REQUIREMENTS:

The horror film contest leans on the cinematic and interpretive elements that support the expansion of the genre. The purpose of this category is to provide a platform where all horror filmmakers can gain exposure for their creepy creative contributions among the international horror community. 

  1. Films must have been completed after January 1, 2010 and must be submitted by the film director and or whom has ownership rights for the film.
  2. Each film submission must be accompanied with a press kit. This includes your biography and profile picture, your film trailer and or behind the scenes video via link to YouTube or Vimeo, your project poster, and any production pictures you would like to add.
  3. All films must meet their film length parameters for each category and be either subtitled or dubbed in English. List of categories and film length parameters are as follows:
  • Micro Short (2-5 minutes)​
  • Standard Short (5-20 minutes)
  • Extended Short (20-40 minutes)
  • Feature (40-150 minutes)

​SCREENPLAY CONTEST REQUIREMENTS:

The horror screenplay contest leans on the use of specific writing skills that supports the expansion of the genre through film. The purpose of this category is to provide a platform where all horror screenwriters can gain exposure for their creepy creative contributions to the international horror community.

  1. You must be the original screenwriter on the project to upload the screenplay. Any unauthorized use of another's work is considered both plagiarism and copyright infringement. 
  2. Submissions should be short-script screenplays (3-40 pages) written for short film, or for feature-script screenplays (40+ pages). As a rule of thumb, each page of a screenplays equals 1 minute of screen time. Short-script and feature-script will be submitted to the same category, however judged separately. 
  3. Submissions must be accompanied with a screenplay cover to be presented in lieu of their screenplay script if chosen as an official selection or CTEA recipient. Due to the sensitivity of the screenplay pursuit, full screenplay scripts will not be presented on our website. This protects your screenplay and allows you to preserve your right to produce it later without spoilers.
  4. All scripts must be submitted in PDF format and transcribed in English,

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST REQUIREMENTS:​​​​

The horror photography contest leans on the photographic and interpretive elements that support the expansion of the genre. The purpose of this category is to provide a platform where all horror photographers can gain exposure for the message they work to share with the international horror community.

  1. You may submit a single-shot or a photo series (3-6 photos). All projects will enter to the same category, but will be judged separately. Below are the focus areas you may lean on to share your craft are Horror Interpretation, Horror Makeup, or Horror Cosplay.
  2. To differentiate between a single photo and a series, a series submission must have either a master photo or a portfolio cover. This may be the first photo in your series, or a cover, and must be titled. All titles must be transcribed in English. We will use the first photo/cover in your submission as the first to be shown for the series.
  3. Your photo/photo series must be original, and should not be found on the public domain by another photographer. Judges will check, so be sure you are presenting your own creepy creations.
  4. Each project submission must be complete, and include a press kit. This includes your biography, creator statement, profile picture. Note that you must provide credits on the credits page of your submission. This includes the standard credits given to all members of the team if you have collaborated talents to develop the project.
